The Science of Evil

Did you see what was on National Geographic yesterday? A segment titled “The Science of Evil”:

From the overview:

Using cutting-edge functional magnetic resonance imaging techniques, scientists attempt to isolate the mechanics of moral judgment by mapping patterns in neurological processes. Could neuron activity in the brain really give rise to good or evil?

The subject of evil is not one that is addressed often in science. M. Scott Peck, offering insights as a psychiatrist, once wrote a book called The People of the Lie, and he discussed what he experienced as evil. This seemed at the time to open the door to the study of this topic, but few in the scientific or mental health community have developed research programs or theoretical models in this area.

In any case, the segment is scheduled to air again this Saturday.
